• We maintain a strict 2% minimum slope across the entire surface profile. This ensures immediate hydraulic runoff, preventing water from pooling in the joints and saturating the sub-base, which is the leading cause of shifting and stone "heaving."

> Pro Tip: Sub-surface water is the primary enemy of interlock. If a contractor isn't using a laser level to set the grades and proper aggregate for drainage, the surface will develop depressions that turn into ice patches and uneven, sunken stones within two winters.

MAXIMUM LOAD DISTRIBUTION

• We utilize high-density, 80mm paving units with a minimum compressive strength of 55 MPa (8,000 PSI). This exceeds the strength of standard concrete, providing a modular surface that can support high-capacity vehicle loads without the risk of surface cracking or structural failure.

> Pro Tip: While 60mm stones are common for walkways, they often lack the mass required for driveways. At KCDL, we exclusively specify 80mm high-density units for vehicular areas to ensure the stones don't tilt or rotate under the weight of heavy SUVs and trucks.

NON-YIELDING FOUNDATION

• We replace unstable subgrade with 12"–18" of Granular A base material, mechanically compacted in 4-inch lifts to 98% Standard Proctor Density. This creates a rigid, non-yielding foundation that distributes weight evenly and prevents the deep-seated "rutting" common in amateur installations.

> Pro Tip: Using "stone screenings" as a base is a major failure point in Ontario. Screenings hold water and turn into mush during the thaw; a clean, crushed Granular A base is the only engineering solution to ensure your driveway stays perfectly level for decades.

GEOTECHNICAL SOIL STABILIZATION

• Every project includes a layer of industrial-grade woven geotextile fabric between the native soil and our stone base. This acts as a structural separator, preventing the heavy stone base from sinking into the soft clay sub-soil over time.

> Pro Tip: In the GTA, high-plasticity clay soils often absorb the gravel base under the weight of vehicles, a process known as "base thinning." By installing a geotextile interface, we maintain the design thickness of your foundation and prevent the intermixing of soil fines, ensuring the driveway remains structurally sound for its entire service life.

POLYMER-LOCKED JOINT INTEGRITY

• We utilize high-performance polymeric jointing sand that chemically bonds when activated with water. This creates a flexible yet durable seal that prevents weed growth, resists ant infestations, and stops water from washing away the bedding sand underneath the stones.

> Pro Tip: Standard joint sand washes away in the first rain, leaving the edges of your stones unsupported. High-quality polymeric sand acts like a "flexible grout," locking the entire surface into a single, unified slab while still allowing for natural thermal expansion.
